OpenStax is the world’s largest non-profit publisher of open education resources (OER) and an initiative of Rice University. With a commitment to making an amazing education accessible to all, OpenStax provides free, high-quality, peer-reviewed learning materials and interactive learning technologies for high school and college courses. OpenStax is also the lead organization of the nation’s seminal infrastructure for education research, SafeInsights.
This fall, OpenStax is celebrating 25 years of serving students and educators! First launched as Connexions by Rice University C. Sydney Burrus Professor Richard G. Baraniuk in 1999 as an open educational resource (OER) repository for instructors, we transitioned to OpenStax in 2012 by publishing our first openly licensed college textbook. Our library has since scaled to 70 titles with aligned student and educator resources. Over the past 25 years, our materials have been used by 36.1 million students across 150 countries, saving students $2.9 billion in related education costs.
