About me
Josh Halpern has been developing new STEM curricula with Prince George's Community College colleagues for over 18 years, first as a faculty member at Howard University and since 2017 as part of the LibreTexts OER team. Originally attracted to OER to limit costs to my students, over time I have come to appreciate OER's exceptional ability to support courses enabling faculty and students to enhance their teaching and learning. I have observed how OER it can build individual and institutional reputations. My PGCC colleagues and I have used new OER supported curricula to attract funding, the funding in turn to support students and new teaching laboratory equipment, which then in turn allow creation of yet further curricula. A virtuous circle. Among my other community serving activities during 40 years at Howard, I was the founding director of the DC Space Grant Consortium and administered the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Faculty Fellowship Program from 1995 to 2006.
